When you actually need the extra 50mm
If your phone touches the handlebar, hits the fairing, or sits behind the mirror housing, the stock mount position is too tight. The 50mm extension moves the phone forward or outward so you can see the screen without craning your neck.
On a car mount, the extension can help clear a deep dashboard or center console lip. But if your phone already sits at a comfortable distance, adding length may introduce vibration. Stick with the extension only when clearance is the problem.
How to add the 50mm extension to your mount
- Remove your phone and mount head: Take the phone off the mount and unscrew the mount head from your handlebar or mirror base. Keep the base attached to the bike. Common mistake: trying to install the arm while the mount head is still locked on. Always detach first.
- Thread the extension arm onto the base: Screw the 50mm arm into the existing base where the mount head used to sit. Hand-tighten until snug—do not over-torque. Check that the arm is fully seated; a loose connection can allow the phone to wobble at highway speeds.
- Attach the mount head to the extension arm: Screw the original mount head into the other end of the extension arm. Tighten just enough so it doesn't rotate on its own. Test the angle before you ride. If the phone still hits the handlebar, the extension is the right fix—but you may also need a different mount position.
